Zippo Hebs - PJ Ain't Dead Yet
PJ Ain't Dead Yet, released by Zippo Hebs on March 9th, 2021, was a brief yet slightly enjoyable lo-fi indie record. Its biggest flaw was how breft each composition was, though to its benefit the short EP flowed quite well. Furthermore, there were some neat moments, such as the sample use during This was a Painting, Man on the Tracks and especially I’m a Battery. Most surprising was the genuine Hibernation Hangover towards the end.
Like the similar Savage Taterbug, the album integrated lo-fi folk/rock with sample use in an interesting manner, though unlike the previously mentioned artist, these songs sound like they were made in an afternoon. Perhaps with more elbow grease, future Zippo Hebs records flourish; until then it’s difficult to recommend.
