Died - Anonymized Internal Criminals

Died’s Anonymized Internal Criminals is essentially Fugazi and Stabscotch blended together. While it’s not entirely unique, it completely excels at every other category.

You may be wondering how such a short post-hardcore album could score so highly on Deko.fm; this is mostly due to the incredible production, high energy sharp songwriting. Borne’s screams are furious, and impeccably balanced by the Slint-like spoken-word sections. While the artist barely presents any new ideas, it nails its imitation of others. One cannot praise these vocals enough. Fireman, Carry Me Home ventures into noise-metal territory, and kills it. Excellent to Me’s most impressive feature is how many distinct verses it’s able to implement, and its borderline-satirical outro marred by the caws of crows. The excellent vocal expressions return on Borrower, before exploding into a barrage of violent metal, and ending in a wasteland of math-rock goodness. The Ep closes with its most violent expression, I Rob You. The album barely gives you a moment to breathe.

Anonymized Internal Criminals is short, but dense and filled to the brim with hard riffs and a rockin’ personality. If it were double the length and similar in quality, it’d most likely score a Great score. At its current length, it stands proud nest to Joyce Manor’s debut; a sweet post-punk album to return to any time you need to take a lengthy, yet challenging shit.
